The investment will reinforce Micron’s commitment to key sectors including industrial, automotive, defense, aerospace and medical.
Micron plans to expand its U.S. investments to approximately $150 billion in domestic memory manufacturing and $50 billion in R&D, creating an estimated 90,000 direct and indirect jobs. This includes building a second leading-edge memory fab in Boise, Idaho, expanding and modernizing its existing facility in Manassas, Virginia, and bringing advanced packaging capabilities to the U.S. to enable long-term growth in High Bandwidth Memory.
Micron’s Manassas facility is the country’s only fully owned 300mm fab, specializing in 300mm NAND, DRAM, and NOR focused on automotive, industrial, networking and consumer markets. About half of the cars on the road today in the U.S. have a Micron chip made in Manassas.
Of the total memory chips in the world, about 2% are manufactured in the U.S., all at Micron’s Manassas facility.
Micron Manassas employs approximately 1,300 full-time team members and 1,000 contractors. Nearly one in ten team members are veterans, with plans to increase this number through strategic partnerships.
Micron has partnerships with organizations such as the Department of Defense SkillBridge, Virginia Values Veterans, Virginia Chamber of Commerce, HIRE VETS NOW and in-state military bases.
The Micron Registered Apprenticeship Program is the first federally registered apprenticeship program, offering paid, hands-on experience for those starting their careers, returning from leave or military service or seeking a new path in the semiconductor industry. Apprentices receive competitive wages, full benefits and technical training through partner school Northern Virginia Community College. We will be accepting applications for the next cohort of registered apprentices in Manassas fall 2025.
