Micron's registered apprenticeship program

Micron’s Registered Apprenticeship Program gives you the opportunity to break into the industry, providing hands-on training and technical instruction designed for aspiring technicians.

Program overview

Micron’s registered apprenticeship program utilizes the “earn while you learn" model which provides apprentices hands-on, on-the-job training while also affording them the flexibility to complete their education at the same time. Apprentices must enroll in an approved technical related certificate or 2-year associate degree. Apprentices can work as a Process Technician, Equipment Technician, or a Lab Technician, depending on the location of their apprenticeship with Micron. We currently offer apprenticeships at our Idaho and Virginia fabs with plans to expand into other locations in the US.

Apprentices receive competitive wages, progressive wage increases, health benefits, and tuition fees are covered by Micron. This program is registered with the Department of Labor and upon completion, apprentices receive a nationally recognized credential they can take anywhere.

Registered Apprenticeship is an industry-driven, high-quality career pathway where employers can develop and prepare their future workforce, and individuals can obtain paid work experience, and progressive wage increases, classroom instruction, and a portable, nationally recognized credential. Registered Apprenticeships are industry-vetted and are approved and validated by the U.S. Department of Labor or a State Apprenticeship Agency.

Apprentices can complete the program in as little as 18 months! In order to complete the program, apprentices are required related technical instruction (RTI) and on-the-job training (OJT) hours.

RTI stands for related technical instruction, and our Idaho RTI provider is College of Western Idaho. OJT stands for on-the-job training, which is the hands-on industry experience apprentices receive while working as a technician in our fab.

You must complete 216 hours of RTI and 2,746 hours of OJT to complete the apprenticeship program.

Apprentices must be enrolled or planning to enroll at an approved RTI provider as designated by the program sponsor. Currently, the approved RTI provider in the state of Idaho is College of Western Idaho, and Northern Virginia Community College is the approved RTI provider in the state of Virginia.
