GDDR7 (graphics double data rate 7) is the latest generation of high-performance graphics memory designed for GPUs. It delivers unprecedented bandwidth and efficiency for demanding workloads such as gaming, AI inference and high-performance computing (HPC). Built on Micron’s advanced 1β (1-beta) DRAM process, GDDR7 achieves speeds up to 32 Gb/s, enabling system bandwidth greater than 1.5 TB/s.

GDDR7 offers up to 60% higher bandwidth than GDDR6 and introduces PAM3 (pulse amplitude modulation with 3 levels) signaling, which improves data transfer efficiency. It also reduces operating voltage to 1.2V, improving power efficiency by over 50% compared to GDDR6.

No. GDDR7 uses a different signaling method (PAM3) and requires new memory controllers, so it is not backward compatible with GDDR6 or GDDR6X.

GDDR7 uses PAM3 signaling, which allows more data to be transmitted per cycle compared to NRZ (non-return-to-zero) used in GDDR6. This innovation enables higher speeds without significantly increasing power consumption.

GDDR7 introduces optimized thermal ball-out and improved heat dissipation features, making it more suitable for high-power GPUs and compact designs.
