Binary (BIN) files can be used to upgrade firmware using both Micron’s Storage Executive software, and third party drive management tools.
Separate binary files may be required for different capacities of SSDs within a product family.
1100 example: Separate binary files are required for 1100 low capacity (256GB – 1TB) SSDs, and 2TB SSDs.
5100 example: Separate binary files are required for 5100 low capacity (240GB – 1920GB) SSDs, 3840GB SSDs, and 7680GB SSDs.
Micron proprietary zip files (ZIP) files can be used to upgrade firmware of SATA SSDs, and work only with Micron’s Storage Executive software.
The zip file should not be extracted.
A single zip package contains the firmware for all drive capacities within a product family.
Storage Executive can be used to upgrade the firmware of all drives in a product family in a system with a single command.
