Micron Foundation Donates NT$8 Million Through Employee-Matched Funds to Taiwan’s Underprivileged Families in the Fight Against COVID-19

TAIPEI, Taiwan, May 4, 2020 — Micron Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: MU) today announced a NT$8 million (US$267,000) donation to assist Taiwan’s underprivileged families in battling the COVID-19 pandemic. Through Micron’s gift matching program, Micron doubled the contributions of more than 1,000 team members to support key charities assisting local communities. Funding will go towards supporting the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families (TFCF) and its COVID-19 Home and School Care Project, which aims to ensure economic security, continuous learning and critical life support for disadvantaged families.

Micron began collaborating with the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families in early April, setting a goal to reach NT$1.5 million through employee donations. The campaign succeeded in raising five times that much just weeks into the campaign.

“We are committed to applying the full strength and resources of Micron’s business to support our communities while continuing to take proactive measures to protect the health and safety of our team,” said KC Hsu, corporate vice president and Taiwan country manager at Micron Technology. “I am deeply moved by the generous response from our local team members, and we are honored to work with TFCF to provide immediate support to Taiwanese families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

TFCF's COVID-19 Home and School Care Project offers support to needy families, children and adolescents, including emergency assistance, digital-learning resources and mental health services. To date, TFCF has provided emergency aid to 500 families.

“As the global COVID-19 pandemic continues to unfold, young children and their families remain especially vulnerable,” said Su-Chiou Ho, chief executive officer, Taiwan Fund for Children and Families. “We are thankful to the Micron Foundation and Micron’s Taiwan employees for their contributions in helping ensure the well-being of children and adolescents so that they can continue their lives and studies during this challenging time.”

Micron previously announced plans to dedicate US$35 million to counter the global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, to maximize the impact of contributions to local communities, Micron raised team member individual match limits from $2,000 to $10,000 for 2020, introduced a two-to-one match, and increased the company’s overall match funding to $5 million globally. Micron is also supporting local communities around the world with funding for supplies, such as personal protective equipment and thermal scanners, to help those on the front lines.
