Micron Foundation Donates $200,000 to Support Germany in the Battle Against COVID-19

MUNICH — May 18, 2020 — Micron Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: MU), a global leader in memory and storage solutions, today announced a US$200,000 (180,000 euros) donation from its Micron Foundation COVID-19 Relief Fund to support Germany in the battle against COVID-19. Funding will go toward providing basic care and food distribution to Germans disproportionately affected by COVID-19, particularly the elderly and the homeless, as well as hospital supplies, equipment and resourcing for staffing of clinical personnel and services.

The Micron Foundation will offer grants to three local organizations administering relief efforts in Germany: Caritas, Citizens in Social Need (BISS) and the City of Munich Department of Social Affairs. The donations will help Caritas and BISS sustain meal programs and address the needs of homeless and elderly populations. The City of Munich’s Department of Social Affairs will leverage Micron Foundation’s grant to establish Corona Help, a program that offers both immediate aid and long-term support to people affected by the pandemic, and to assist the Help the Helpers Project, which provides personal protective equipment and supplies to health care professionals, hospitals and retirement homes.

“The health and safety of our team members and partners, as well as the well-being of the communities in which we operate, is our top priority at Micron,” says Markus Balb, senior director, Munich Design Center, and Micron Foundation board member. “Micron is committed to doing everything possible to support our communities and prioritizing our resources on organizations like Caritas that address the areas that will most greatly impact local citizens in the fight against COVID-19.”

“COVID-19 has had a particular impact on people who were already in need, regardless of whether they have tested positive for the virus,” said Andrea Thiele, Caritas board chair. “We are grateful for Micron Foundation’s financial support as it helps us to continue to offer basic care to those who are most vulnerable.”

The donation in Germany reflects Micron’s ongoing comprehensive effort to assist local communities around the world through the company’s pledge of $35 million to fight the global COVID-19 pandemic. As part of those efforts, Micron is supporting its own employee base by making a one-time assistance payment of 800 euros to eligible team members of its German workforce. Micron will also invest in an employee-supported fund for those facing financial hardship, providing grants of up to $5,000 to individual team members based on need. In addition to the $200,000 grants announced today, Micron has encouraged its employees to give to COVID-19 causes, matching their gift donations on a two-to-one basis to increase their reach. Collectively, they have raised nearly $30,000 for German charities.
