In February, Mark Durcan announced his desire to retire as Micron’s CEO. After a rigorous and thorough search for his replacement, the board of directors has announced that SanDisk co-founder and former president and CEO Sanjay Mehrotra will join Micron as president and CEO and as a member of the board of directors, effective May 8. Mark will step down as CEO and from the Micron board of directors on May 8, 2017, but will serve as an advisor to the company until early August.
“Mark has made an immense contribution to Micron and to the semiconductor industry at large over his 32 years at the company and five years as CEO,” said Micron Chairman of the Board in a message to Micron team members. “He is a man of exceptional integrity, with a deep love and passion for Micron which has been demonstrated through the many sacrifices he has made for the betterment of the company.”
Micron Foundation Salutes Mark Durcan for Years of Leadership, Service
In addition to retiring from Micron, Mark is also stepping down from the Micron Foundation Board of Directors, the non-profit created to support the company’s many communities around the world. Durcan joined the Foundation board in 2000 and took over as chairman of the board in 2007. During his tenure as chairman, the Foundation supported STEM education, youth-focused programs, and community organizations through strategic donations of nearly $94 million. Durcan also lead the Foundation through the announcement of the Foundation’s single-largest gift, which was a $25 million commitment to Boise State’s College of Engineering to expand their Material Science Engineering program through the building of the Micron Center for Materials Research.
“Mark’s leadership has had an indelible impact on the Micron Foundation,” said Dee Mooney, Micron Foundation executive director. “His commitment to improving the communities where Micron team members live and work along with his passion for inspiring students to pursue STEM careers have guided the Foundation in creating and supporting meaningful programs all over the world.”
As we welcome Sanjay to the Micron family, we also wish Mark well and the very best in his future endeavors.
