Micron Foundation Brings High Tech U to Milpitas

Micron Foundation Brings High Tech U to Milpitas

After inspiring students for many years in Boise with its STEM-focused Chip Camp, the Micron Foundation recently expanded the concept to Milpitas. Called High Tech U, the Foundation partnered with the SEMI Foundation to create the three-day camp for students, which the Milpitas site hosted from June 27 - 29. Micron President and CEO Sanjay Mehrotra was joined by SEMI and the SEMI Foundation President and CEO Ajit Manocha to formally launch the program.

Similar to Chip Camp, High Tech U is a free summer program that provides hands-on STEM experiences to illustrate the types of opportunities that the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math can offer, particularly in the semiconductor industry. Forty high schoolers participated in various activities and workshops throughout the camp, instructed by Micron team members and SEMI Foundation partners in Milpitas. Working hands-on with experts gave students unique insights to what it is like having a STEM career. Because High Tech U is a free program, students from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds were able to attend. This accessibility provides a potential boost for broadening the diversity of future scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians.

The Micron Foundation is evaluating the first ever Micron High Tech U in Milpitas, with the intent to expand outreach programs with the SEMI Foundation to additional locations.
