Protecting Micron’s Intellectual Property

By Joel Poppen, General Counsel, Micron Technology, Inc.

Protecting Micron’s Intellectual Property

Criminal prosecutors in Taiwan have been conducting ongoing investigations that resulted in the recent arrests of individuals for the suspected theft and misuse of Micron’s intellectual property. Micron supports these investigations and is cooperating fully with the authorities — including both the Taiwan Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau and the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Micron aggressively protects its intellectual property. In the event that an individual or company, wherever located, tries to steal rather than license Micron’s technology, we will use all legal and appropriate tools available to prevent, detect, and punish such efforts.  Micron’s proactive IT initiatives to monitor and identify inappropriate activity were instrumental in the authorities’ ability to proceed with their investigations.

As a global company with nearly 40 years of leadership in technology innovation, over 26,000 patents and significant investment in leading-edge manufacturing processes, Micron has a unique industry position. Attempts to steal and misappropriate Micron confidential and trade secret information demonstrate the increasing importance of memory and Micron’s role in the industry as a technology innovator. We will aggressively protect what Micron team members have spent decades building.
