It’s been an exciting few months since my last post. In fact, we’re starting to see a lot of what I stated then come to fruition. First off, we continue to attract the industry’s top storage talent. Proof of that is our recent announcement that Rob Peglar has joined Micron as VP of Advanced Storage Solutions. As a 38-year veteran of the data storage industry, Rob brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Micron’s Storage Business Unit. I encourage you to check our blog later this week to hear firsthand from Rob about why he’s excited to be here at Micron.
We also announced an enterprise relationship with Seagate that provides a framework for shared innovation and the exchange of technologies. It assures Seagate of strategic supply for their enterprise solutions and provides Micron access to their SAS SSD. This is a unique relationship that provides both parties with significant new enterprise opportunities that we will start to see play out over the next few quarters. A week later we announced a second enterprise relationship with IBM, collaborating with them on their brand new FlashSystem V9000 & 900 all-flash arrays, which are based on Micron’s enterprise-grade FortisFlash technology.
There’s good reason for the recent wave of excitement around Micron, and it goes beyond the traditional, vendor-to-OEM nature of selling our flash technology. It’s really about how we’re taking Micron Flash to the market:
- We’re building a world-class team of enterprise leaders in software, marketing, sales, and engineering;
- We’re innovating with our technology, providing customers with application-optimized flash solutions;
- We’re developing strategic partnerships with leading storage players;
- And finally, we’re engaging end-user customers across the spectrum of our markets to understand and even accelerate the trends.
It is through developments like these that we are gaining market-leading insights to redefine the future of storage. We’re not done yet—there’s much more to come!
