Micron Ranked Among Top Companies That Care

The heart of Micron has never been bigger. I’m humbled by the response of our leaders and team members during this challenging year, but I’m not surprised.

Micron has a culture of caring that is rooted in our core values.

Our support of team members, families and communities recently received national attention when People magazine named Micron to its list of “Top 50 Companies That Care” based on data collected in the annual Great Place to Work survey.

Micron placed 26th on the list.

We are well-known for our cutting-edge storage and memory solutions — but this recognition is special because it highlights that Micron is so much more.

In March, our leaders formed a COVID-19 Community Assistance Task Force to determine how to support team members and their families around the world.

We offered our facilities for overflow patients if hospitals became overwhelmed. We passed along our surplus personal protective equipment. Team members earning less than $100,000 annually received a one-time $1,000 COVID-19 assistance payment; payments were scaled to appropriate amounts in the other countries where we operate.

Additionally, Micron team members received a reimbursement for work-from-home office improvements, a wellness day off, the ability to use time off to donate to other team members, Zoom fitness classes, child care resources for parents, and a well-being channel for communications.

We also committed $35 million — including $10 million from the Micron Foundation relief fund — to help those disproportionately affected by COVID-19, and we established a hardship fund, giving grants of up to $500 to team members who were struggling.

We offered two-to-one matches on charitable donations (up to $10,000). As of late August, we have raised a combined $10.6 million for COVID relief efforts across the world.

The call to care didn’t stop with the pandemic.

At a Micron town hall in June, CEO Sanjay Mehrotra announced that Micron would look for ways to partner with other organizations to promote social justice in our communities.

It made a difference.

Micron hosted special Juneteenth discussions where our team members candidly shared painful past incidents of racism and bias they had experienced. We used our influence to advance the discussion of social justice in our communities and promote allyship at Micron.

Through combined contributions from the Foundation, Micron donated approximately $1 million to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund.

To achieve Micron’s vision of transforming how the world uses information to enrich life for all, we have several values, the first of which is “People: We care about each other.” This recognition by People magazine shows that Micron really is a great place to work, and I’ve never been prouder to be a leader here.

April Arnzen is senior vice president of Human Resources at Micron Technology. She is responsible for aligning people to Micron's business strategy. She was appointed to her current position in 2015.

Since joining Micron in 1996, Arnzen has held various positions of increased responsibility and worked across many functions within the Human Resources department. She helped shape many of Micron’s team member programs, including performance management, human resources business partners, total rewards, leadership development, and succession and integration.
