The World Economic Forum has just welcomed Micron’s Taiwan memory factory into its Global Lighthouse Network. Taiwan is the second of Micron’s factories to join this group of elite facilities that are leading the Fourth Industrial Revolution (the first being our state-of-the-art facility in Singapore).

I made a long-distance call to talk with Adeline Tay, senior director in Micron’s Smart Manufacturing and AI group in Singapore, about this achievement. Micron’s 13 factories around the globe make hundreds of quintillions of bytes of memory and storage each year, so hers is clearly not a small job!

The sheer scale of the data challenge is daunting, but in the data lie the keys to make more productive, more resilient and more sustainable manufacturing operations. And not just for Micron. Adeline emphasized that, as the word “lighthouse” suggests, we’re seeking to guide our whole ecosystem to achieve the same improvements.
