Micron, Rambus, Northwest Logic and Avery Design to Deliver a Comprehensive GDDR6 Solution for Next-Generation Applications

By Craig McGowan - 2018-01-23

As we discussed previously at Mobile World Congress Americas and at the Linley Processor Conference, we see tremendous opportunity for GDDR6.

As the only DRAM vendor to design, test and volume manufacture market-leading GDDR5X DRAM, Micron has been able to leverage that considerable experience with our high-performance GDDR6 solutions.

We announced today that Micron, Rambus, Northwest Logic and Avery Design are working to develop the next step of the GDDR6 ecosystem. The unique contributions from each company will collectively create a comprehensive solution for GDDR6- extending its reach and benefit well beyond its traditional graphics market.

Once complete, the result will be an end-to-end toolkit which will, for the first time, extend the benefits of GDDR6 to ASIC designers for high-performance networking, autonomous vehicle, artificial intelligence and 5G infrastructure products.

The solution will include:

With up to 64GB/s of bandwidth per component, GDDR6 brings superior performance, using low-risk industry-standard BGA packaging. This game-changing, per-package bandwidth satisfies the needs of many highly-differentiated solutions.

We’re excited by today’s announcement and the opportunities it enables.

We hope to see you at DesignCon on Feb 1st where we’ll present more on GDDR6.
