In 2009 the software world started talking about a new term – DevOps. It has since grown to be one of the hottest trends in software, with Gartner stating that by 2016 over 25% of the Global 2000 will be using it. Yet, in 2017 the #1 Google search containing the term DevOps is “What is DevOps?”
One of the best definitions I have found comes from The Agile Admin:
This great article goes on to cover many aspects of DevOps, and some great history too. Unfortunately, DevOps isn’t as easy as figuring out which tools to install, it also affects the culture of your IT organization, you infrastructure, and perhaps the company as a whole.
Many of the people I talk to are navigating how DevOps in their organization will impact operations and how they manage their infrastructure. Some may have heard of DevOps terms like “infrastructure as code” or “chaos monkey” (one of my favorites) and wonder how they relate to their day-to-day work.
If you are planning to be at HPE Discover in Las Vegas next week I’m leading a session on DevOps and how it impacts infrastructure on Wednesday at 9 a.m. You can see a full description of the session here. Please add it to your agenda builder and we look forward to seeing you there! If you can’t make it for any reason, just drop by the Micron booth (#235) on the exhibit floor and we’d be happy to see how we can help you solve your IT infrastructure challenges – whether they are DevOps related or not. See you in Vegas!
