Meridian School District
To show its appreciation for the Micron Foundation’s recent support, the Meridian School District has expressed their gratitude on the highway digital sign located outside the school district’s office that features the Micron Foundation’s logo. Nearly 100,000 passing commuters on I-84 are exposed to the sign daily which exhibits the Foundation’s dedication to cultivating tomorrow’s students.
Among other grants throughout the year, the Foundation recently provided the Meridian School District with much needed funds focused on new teacher training, bus funds to send all 1st and 2nd graders on a science related field trip, and bus funds to transport students in need to Operation School Bell to receive much needed school clothes.
On August 17, the Micron Foundation will also support the Meridian School District’s Tech Expo for educators. The teachers will be exposed to the different outreach programs the Micron Foundation has available to support STEM education in the classroom.
Boise School District
The Micron Foundation has also been working out the details of support for the Boise School District that will bring in a special science assembly from the Oregon Museum for Science in Industry (OMSI). All fifth and sixth grade students in the district will have the opportunity to see the “Golly-ology” science assembly this fall in Capital High School’s auditorium. The Foundation is also covering the cost of bussing.
Computers for Kids (CFK)
After Micron computers and equipment becomes outdated, Micron Foundation partners with the Information Technology Asset Management (ITAM) to donate them to local nonprofit, Computer for Kids. This program focuses on student enrichment and giving Idaho students the opportunity to enhance their education through the use of technology at home.
Throughout the 2011 calendar year, Micron Technology has donated more than 1,400 computers to Computers for Kids that they are preparing for distribution to youth throughout the community. Plans for donating memory upgrades for many of the PCs are also being planned.
