Engineers begin with the challenge. Then they develop a vision of how to meet that challenge. They combine their knowledge of engineering principles with their innate creativity and the perseverance to see the project through to the end to develop answers to the questions posed by the challenge.
This process is called innovation, the act of introducing something new. Often, this is the product of taking work already done and refining it, amplifying it, or adapting it to the present need. This makes the exchange of information between colleagues very important, whether its communicating with fellow engineers in your company, reading industry periodicals, or attending conferences or trade shows.
