"If you like to work with computers, machine parts, or technical processes and like to see how your ability can benefit others and yourself, continue with your education and pursue your dream." –Kim, Production Operator

What do you do in your position?

I use computers to operate machines to process a particular memory chip part.

How or why did you decide to enter a technical career?

At the time when I was looking for a job, I heard about Micron providing good benefits, good pay, and opportunities for advancement.

What do you like about your job? Give an example of an interesting project or opportunity.

I like working with different machines and computers and learning about different processes of memory. The memory chips we make here are used in such things as computers, cell phones, video games, and pagers. They're used everywhere: hospitals, schools, your home, airplanes, the armed forces, arcades, and shopping malls. When I think about how widely my job benefits others, including myself, it becomes very important and rewarding.

What high school courses helped you prepare for your job or
college program?

When I came here from another country I had completed up to 9th grade. I took GED classes to complete high school here. It helped me in reading, writing, and speaking and understanding English. I think you should take advantage of the rich sources of education this country provides and reach your dreams, which will benefit yourself and others.

What post-high school education did you pursue?

I took some basic computer courses and some process classes offered by Micron. They offer so many education programs to help a person further his or her career.

What advice would you give a student interested in pursuing a technical career?

If you like to work with computers, machine parts, or technical processes and like to see how your ability can benefit others and yourself, continue with your education and pursue your dream.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I like reading, fishing, wake boarding, exercising at the gym, dining out and camping with family. In production areas, Micron team members work 12-hour days for three or four days. The three- or four-day work week is called a shift. Working a shift allows me long weekends to travel with my family out of town from time to time.

Education: Production Operator
