What do you do in your position?

As an operator in the Test Department, I test and sort memory chips by functionality and speed.

How or why did you decide to enter a technical career?

During high school, I always knew that I wanted to move into a career that involved computers because it's fast paced, and I've always wanted to work with cutting edge technology.

What do you like about your job?
Give an example of an interesting project or opportunity.

What I enjoy most about my job is the fact that I learn something new everyday about technological advances and product types. One particular project that we were involved in that really opened my eyes to what technology can bring us, was our manufacturing of the memory chips for the X-Box®. By working here my knowledge of technology around the world is ever expanding. It's very gratifying to know that one of the X-Box systems I bought had a chip that I helped manufacture.

What high school courses helped you prepare for your job or
college program?

In high school, I took all of the basic skills courses for computers that were available. I knew that I wanted to enter some type of computer related industry, so understanding the basic functions of computer programs like Windows helped me familiarize myself with different tasks I now perform on the computer in my job. Improving my typing speed was another important skill I developed in high school that I'll be utilizing for the rest of my career.

What post high school education did you pursue?

I am attending Boise State University for a Production Operation Management degree. I'm also taking all of the computer classes that are offered for operators at Micron.

What advice would you give a student interested in pursuing a technical career?

Set goals for yourself, and don't get discouraged when it doesn't look as though you'll ever make it. Never underestimate your abilities, dream of success and strive to achieve your goals. Technology is the future and a technical career will take you to places you never thought possible.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Outside of work I enjoy drawing, reading, writing and playing piano.

Education: Production Operator

A high school diploma is preferred for this position.
