DDR SDRAM

DDR SDRAM captures data at twice the clock frequency, creating high-speed, low-power, high-density components. Micron’s line of DDR SDRAM products is available in a variety of densities, speeds, and configurations. Our DDR components are manufactured using our state-of-the-art process geometries.

Micron's DDR SDRAM supports a number of features, including source-synchronous interface, which simplifies timing (especially at higher speeds); an internal, pipelined 2n-prefetch architecture, which allows two data accesses per clock cycle; and a quad-bank architecture, which allows for reduction of row access overhead.

DDR is a mainstream memory used in all levels of desktop, notebook, and server platforms. These platforms provide a range of speeds in high-density applications; in the corporate, portable, and mid-range applications; and in gaming systems and workstation segments.

Designer's Toolbox: Resources for Designers

Micron's Designer's Toolbox provides resources for designers developing system-level products that take advantage of the DDR SDRAM memory architecture. From presentations and design resources to industry standards and specifications--you'll find the information you need in the Toolbox.

Standards and Industry Specifications

JEDEC has defined a standard module PCB which consists of design schematic, trace routing, and stack-up. By defining a module design, we have achieved a consistent electrical performance for the system designer and end-user.

Micron complies with all standards hosted on the DDR unbuffered SODIMM common Gerber. We encourage all designers and end-users to insist on DDR Modules based on this design.

DDR SDRAM Component Standards for Registered, Unbuffered, and SODIMMs

DDR SDRAM 184-pin Unbuffered DIMM Standards

DDR SDRAM 200-pin Unbuffered SODIMM Standards (Unbuffered DIMM pinout)

Module Modeling

The PCB design files for all the DDR modules are included in the Common Gerber design package. These design files are from Cadence Allegro (.brd) and are directly compatible with Cadance SPECCTRAQuest simulation tools. There are translation tools available that will convert these files to formats that are compatible with Mentor ICX, QUAD (.xtk), and others. Contact your tool supplier for details.
