Comments: Procedures (or "specs") are the oldest form of standardized documents
that Micron distributes company-wide. Originally, Micron used a system where
writers had no control over formatting features such as typeface or spacing,
and the specs could not contain graphics. All concepts were conveyed through
text and the writers used military-style numbering for navigation.
Today, Micron delivers Web-based procedures. This delivery method allows writers
to use multiple typeface styles and sizes, colored text, symbols, graphics,
and hypertext links. Since these features enhance readability, the writers
determined that the strict military numbering of the original “spec” format
was no longer required.
Procedures can be written by any Micron employee. However, to guarantee accuracy,
the document is reviewed, edited, tested, and approved by professional technical
writers and subject-matter experts. After approval, the area employees receive
notification that a new procedure exists (or changes were made to an existing
procedure) and that they need to review it. These procedures are also used
for training and certification.
