E-Mail Mentoring Program Results
The
program has encouraged schools to integrate the use of technology
and e-mail into career planning activities. Rural schools
have been particularly responsive to this opportunity for their
students to interact with women in technical careers.
Evaluations convince us that the students’ e-mail communication
with their mentors combined with on-site visits to meet their mentors
personally is very powerful. Schools, parents, and our own employees
and management urge us to continue this program.
We encourage others to use our program as a guide or a
model for a similar effort. Costs for a program like this are minimal.
We provide t-shirts, lunch, and a snack for the students and mentors: a bargain
if even a few young women realize the incredible
opportunities awaiting them in technical careers.

well and thoroughly she answered my questions; I had a lot.
I also loved the variety of questions she opened up."
This was great! It really opened a window of opportunities and gave me some ideas
of what I want to do. Thanks!"
"I liked e-mailing (learning how to). I always looked forward to checking my mailbox to
see if I'd gotten anything back. I also loved finally coming to Micron, meeting my great
mentor, and exploring Micron and learning more about technology... I also liked all the
demonstrations."
I liked working on a team. I got to meet new people and learn about their interests."
