E-Mail Mentoring Site Visits
Student-Mentor Mixer
The
student-mentor mixer provides an opportunity for the mentor and students to meet each other
before the start of the e-mail exchange and to set the expectations for participation at the
onset. Additionally, activities during the mixer encourage bonding by
the mentor and two students from different schools. The mixer also generates excitement for
the program with the students and mentors.
Student-mentor mixer agenda:
- Welcome and overview of the agenda (5-10 minutes)
- Ice breaker/getting to know you activity (10 minutes)
- Sharing biographical sketches (10 minutes)
- Team building activity (45 minutes)
- Program guidelines (30 minutes)
- Questions/answers, and conclusion of visit
(15 minutes)
Final Site Visit
The goal of the final site visit is to provide the students time to
experience hands-on activities that give insight to the semiconductor
industry and to participate in a short job shadow.
The site visit includes:
- Welcome, housekeeping, and student presentation of school
banners (30 min.)
- Whole group guided activity (30 min.)
- Hands-on demonstration located around the perimeter of the
auditorium. Teams of students and mentor rotate through the
stations. (75 min.)
- Binary numbers
- Dressing for the cleanroom
- Microscopic analysis
- Manufacturing process
- Emerging technology
- Parts of a Computer
- Lunch (30 min.)
- Site tour and short job shadow (75-90 min.)
- Closing and other opportunities for participation
- Evaluation (15 min.)
