Regional K-12 Outreach Program to Launch during the 2009-2010 School Year
Working together, the Manassas and Prince William Regional School Divisions and Micron are excited about partnering with Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) and George Mason University (GMU) to develop an initiative to expand and sustain the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) activities that Micron launched in the Manassas community four years ago. This initiative is initially being funded through a substantial grant from the Commonwealth of Virginia and NOVA. The grant will fund the expansion of Micron’s branded K-12 program as well as provide support for educator professional development (to focus on STEM pathways) and to support co-curricular STEM activities such as robotic competitions.
Virginia teachers will not schedule lessons with Micron as they have done in the past. Once the program begins, information and participation details will be distributed to Manassas and Prince William Regional School Divisions. We fully expect this regional STEM partnership to launch during the 2009-2010 school year.
We look forward to this new partnership in education to strengthen the STEM pipeline in Virginia!
