Internship Opportunities in Productions Operations Management

Intern Manufacturing Associate - Fab

Fab POM Interns are assigned to a specific area in the Fab. They work in that area each week to get integrated into the manufacturing process. After the first few weeks of the internship, the department reduces the time on the Fab floor and introduces the interns into other parts of the department where POM skills are used. Each intern is assigned a project and is given full responsibility to find a solution. At the end of the summer, each intern presents their project and recommendations to the Fab Management Team.

The first six weeks of the internship are devoted to learning the area in the Fab and becoming certified on a specific workstation in that area. During this time the intern will be expected to work a normal 12-hour production shift and learn basic operator skills. The second six weeks of the internship is more devoted to exposure to mechanical production tools, metrics, and applications to managing the production area.

Training and exposure consists of, but is not limited to: SPC management techniques and tools; control chart usage and protocol; quality control procedures and reaction mechanisms; process training related to the basic semiconductor device; capacity planning and production scheduling; capacity training and theory of constraints workshop; production inventories/scheduling workshop/class; learning aspects of Cycle Time tools and usage; job position shadowing at the lead/supervisor/manager levels; exposure to performance management tools and techniques; cross-training in multiple areas of the production area; supervisor apprentice training.

Qualified candidates must be pursuing Operations Management degree.
