What products does Micron manufacture?

Micron is an industry leading, global manufacturer and marketer of semiconductor devices, principally DRAM and NAND Flash memory, but also CMOS image sensors (designed and marketed by our subsidiary, Aptina). Our products are offered in a wide variety of package and configuration options, architectures, and performance characteristics tailored to meet application and customer needs. We continually introduce new generations of products that offer lower costs per unit and improved performance characteristics.

DRAM: Dynamic Random Access Memory ("DRAM") products are high-density, low-cost-per-bit, random access memory devices that provide high-speed data storage and retrieval. Micron also dedicates a portion of its DRAM production to specialty memory products such as pseudo-static RAM ("PSRAM"), Mobile DRAM and Reduced Latency DRAM ("RLDRAM"). Specialty memory products are generally targeted to consumer electronics, networking, server, and mobile applications that require specific performance characteristics such as high density, low power, and low latency. The transition to specialty memory products has reduced our reliance on standardized, high-volume products sold for use as main memory in computers such as DDR2.

NAND Flash Memory: Flash memory products are electrically re-writeable, non-volatile semiconductor devices that retain memory content when power is turned off. Micron produces NAND Flash devices, which use semiconductor technology similar to DRAM. The market for NAND products has grown rapidly and we expect it to continue to grow due to demand for removable and embedded storage devices. Removable storage devices such as USB and Flash memory cards are used with a multitude of electronic and mobile devices including digital cameras, MP3 players, and mobile phones.

We made significant increases in our NAND output in fiscal 2008 as we further ramped production at the Lehi 300mm facility. Our move toward 34nm process technology-an industry first-will provide unparalleled efficiencies. This increase in NAND production will also allow further internal sourcing options for Lexar, Micron's subsidiary and a leading marketer and manufacturer of NAND Flash memory products.

Imaging: Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor ("CMOS") image sensors capture and process images and video for a variety of consumer and industrial applications. Since entering the market in 2001, we've become a leading provider of 2, 3, and 5 megapixel CMOS image sensors to the industry's most popular, mainstream and high-end mobile phone manufacturers. Our CMOS sensors bring high-quality picture and video capabilities to mobile phones, digital still cameras, personal media video recorders, security and surveillance cameras, PC cameras, automotive applications, and more.

In the spring of 2008, we launched a new brand for our imager design and marketing division-Aptina Imaging. Aptina was made a wholly-owned subsidiary that fall and continues to drive innovation in the market with its growing portfolio of CMOS technologies and image sensor solutions. Working as a wholly-owned subsidiary enables an increased focus for Aptina's marketing and R&D efforts, while retaining Micron's manufacturing strength. The relationship provides experienced, top-quality manufacturing for Aptina.
